Magnesium uptake by microalgae: mechanisms and modelling

The presentation deals with the modelling of magnesium uptake by Chlorella vulgaris microalgae. Justifications were first given for the choice of magnesium (involved in photosynthesis via chlorophyll and essential mineral against stress) and microalgae (large variety of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics applications). Mechanisms of magnesium bioaccumulation were clarified and an appropriate model was elaborated and experimentally validated. Thus, optimal experimental conditions were then identified ensuring the growth of the Chlorella vulgaris microalgae and a significant increase of the amount of its magnesium.
